A Revolutionary NEW TRAINING REGIMEN
by Dean Brittenham
For the past two years coaches and trainers have seen amazing improvement in Performing Sport Specific Skills in the majority of sports. This performance has been by a select few and NOT the majority of the performers. The answer to why this has happened is that, whether knowingly or unknowingly, a select few trainers have been able to tap into and develop the Right Brain, enabling these few performers to perform on a very high Level.
These elite trainers have looked at the great high achievers in all walks of life and areas of endeavor. The very greatest in ALL areas: Music—Mozart, Beethoven; Inventions—Edison, Franklin; Art—Picasso, Rembrandt; Genius—Leonardo da Vinci, Disney, Gates, Buffet; Athletics—Ted Williams, Carl Lewis, Wilt "the Stilt" Chamberlain, Babe Zaraharsis, Arnold Palmer, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird…the list could go on and on…had the answer, and that is they were ALL WHOLE BRAIN THINKERS.
We presently have several examples of Whole Brain Thinkers who are dominating their sport. There are statements being said about these performers that they are the BEST EVER, which is pretty bold considering how great past performers were. Tiger Woods, because of his domination over a tremendous number of outstanding competitors, is being considered the very BEST golfer EVER. WHY? Pete Sampras, R. Nadal, and Roger Federer have dominated a great field of competitors as they have won practically every major tennis tournament for the past 12 years. WHY? Steve Nash, a two-time MVP in the NBA, has been described by five former all-star point guards as the best they have ever seen. WHY? Because they are Whole Brain Thinkers.
WHY or WHAT enabled these all-time greatest performers to be the Very Best in their time? They SEE the golf course differently, SEE the tennis court and the opponent differently, SEE the entire basketball court and the other nine players differently. Because they are Whole Brain Thinkers, they are in the right place at the right time, their sport is slowed down—they see the big picture—they are "in the Zone." This means they have Relaxed Concentration, they have greater Balance, Rhythm, Self-Image, Self–Confidence, Highly-tuned Sensory Systems, they are Creative Thinkers, they have the highest level of Imagination, they see in advance all the possibilities. This is what whole brain thinkers have.
Bill Harrison and I have seen our athletes achieve on a very high level and many times beyond what we felt that they would achieve. We have researched what Whole Brain Thinkers have and in many instances how they arrived at the top. By reading the research, reading thirty books on the brain and how to develop and harness the brain, we now know why so many of our athletes and teams have risen to the top in their sport. We had been doing an abundance (100’S) of Ambidexterity activities, Sensory Expansion activities, and Bilaterality activities, and the research shows that this is how you grow the brain; rewire the brain; increase the number of brain cells, synapses, and dendrites; make new and more connections, more mental maps, more motor maps, and patterns, which all lead to becoming a Whole Brain Thinker and a Dominating Performer.
In the 2008 baseball season, four of our clients were in the top eight in major league baseball in home runs and RBI’s. Four of our clients have been No.1 in the world in tennis. Zack Thomas as a very undersized linebacker became a dedicated trainer and became a WBT’er. He was selected an eight time All-Pro. Our Synchronized Skating team won the National Championship. A high school baseball team won the National Championship. A number of top golfers are using some of our programs and drills. By using some or part of our programs we now know why one of our football teams became National Champions and why one of our Pro Football teams went to the Super Bowl in its first year with a new coaching staff.
Teaching and learning is changing everyday by research, studies, and books on growing the brain using Right Brain curriculum. Japanese and Chinese schools are adding the very Right Brain activities that we have in our programs (athletic skills, music & art) to enable their students to become Whole Brain Thinkers instead of brilliant Left Brain thinkers. Teaching and learning will see dramatic changes in the very near future; the world will experience an EDUCATIONAL TSUNAMI!
